Jaypee Dimple Drain Board is a high‑density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet with engineered dimples that create an air gap between the structure and the backfill. This drainage cavity collects groundwater and directs it to a discharge point while protecting the waterproofing membrane from mechanical damage and soil stress.
Each studded sheet acts as a combined drainage layer, pressure relief system, and protection board, delivering reliable performance on basements, retaining walls, tunnels, green roofs, and other below‑grade structures.

Q1. What is the primary use of Dimple Drain Board?
Jaypee Dimple Drain Board is used as a drainage and protection layer on below‑grade walls and slabs. It creates an air gap that channels groundwater down to a drain while shielding the waterproofing membrane and concrete from backfill damage and hydrostatic pressure. Common applications include basements, foundations, retaining walls, tunnels, and green roofs.
Q2. How is it installed?
The board is fixed directly over the waterproofing membrane or concrete surface. On exterior basement and retaining walls, it is typically installed with the dimples facing the wall to form a drainage cavity, from footing level up to finished grade, and mechanically fastened along the top and intermediate points. Water runs down the dimple channels to a perimeter drain at the base.
Q3. Can it be used with any waterproofing system?
Yes. Dimple Drain Board is designed to work over most common waterproofing systems, including bituminous coatings, liquid‑applied membranes, and sheet membranes. It does not replace the waterproofing; it protects it and provides drainage. Always follow the waterproofing manufacturer’s guidelines and your engineer’s specification for compatibility and detailing.
Q4. Do I still need a perimeter drain pipe?
Yes. The board moves water down the wall to the base; it does not dispose of it. A perforated drain pipe at footing level, surrounded by clean gravel and filter fabric, is still required to carry the collected water away to daylight, a sump, or a storm connection.
Q5. Which dimple height or grade should I choose?
For standard basement and foundation walls with moderate groundwater conditions, 7–8 mm dimple height is typically adequate. Higher dimple profiles (10–23 mm) provide increased drainage capacity and are used for heavier loads or high water tables, such as deep basements, retaining walls, and tunnels. Selection should be based on expected inflow, drainage gradient, and structural loads as per design.
Q6. Can it be installed on the interior side of basement walls?
Yes. For retrofit situations where exterior excavation is not feasible, dimple boards can be fixed to the interior face of basement walls with the dimples facing the wall, channeling seepage down to an interior perimeter drain and sump pump. This keeps the finished interior dry, even though water is managed from inside.
